Meet Brenda Myers, our Working Genius facilitator

“During my career, I have had the privilege of leading both large and small teams across nonprofit and for-profit sectors. I consistently focus on encouraging creativity and driving results by supporting leaders and evaluating the progress and contributions of every team member. This approach ensures sustained success.

I became a Working Genius facilitator and started Team Dynamics, LLC after using the Working Genius model with teams I managed or worked with. Now, I help individuals embrace their unique strengths and build teams that truly perform at their best.

The Working Genius assessment, developed by internationally-known leadership expert, Patrick Lencioni, provides powerful insights into how each team member contributes to the success of the group by identifying their nature gifts across six core areas: Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity.

It will make a difference in your team’s communication, collaboration, and satisfaction, all while keeping projects moving forward to completion!”

About the six types of Working Genius

Each person has their own areas of working genius, or areas in which they excel and make significant contributions. These may include the genius of invention, the ability to generate original and novel ideas and solutions, or the genius of enablement, the ability to facilitate and support the success of others.

Thinking about your working genius will help you identify what brings you joy in your work and also what frustrates you or leaves you feeling blocked and unsatisfied.

The six types of working geniuses fit together like gears, and strong teams have a balance of the six different working personality types. By understanding team member geniuses, leaders are able to use people’s natural abilities to move projects forward more efficiently, reduce team conflict, and increase positive employee engagement.

  • People with this genius are naturally drawn to exploring the "what if" scenarios, identifying potential in situations that others might overlook. They often focus on the potential of things.

Love of questioning: They thrive on asking probing questions to uncover underlying issues and stimulate deeper thinking within a team.

Comfortable with ambiguity: Unlike some who need clear direction, "Wonder" individuals can comfortably navigate uncertainty and open-ended situations.

Role in innovation: Their ability to challenge assumptions and generate new perspectives can be crucial for driving creative solutions and fostering a culture of innovation within a team.

  • Core skill: Creating new ideas, thinking outside the box, and developing novel solutions to challenges.

Enjoyment factor: People with this genius often find joy in tackling problems with a blank canvas and brainstorming fresh perspectives.

In a team setting: While valuable for generating ideas, individuals with "Invention" genius often need others to evaluate and refine their concepts, such as those with the "Discernment" working genius.

  • Core skill: Evaluating ideas and solutions with a keen sense of judgment, identifying the most viable and promising options.

Strengths: Excellent at analyzing data and information to inform decisions. Can see through complexity and identify patterns. Strong intuition and ability to make quick, informed judgments. Skilled at providing insightful feedback and guidance to others

How they contribute to a team: Act as a critical thinker, evaluating the merits of different ideas and approaches . Help teams make well-considered decisions by providing objective analysis. Identify potential risks and areas for improvement in projects

Potential challenges: May be perceived as overly critical or negative if not careful with feedback. Can struggle with situations requiring rapid decision-making without sufficient information.

  • Galvanizers inspire. They can easily energize people and get them excited about a project or idea through their charisma and communication skills.

Strong rallying ability: They are adept at bringing people together, uniting diverse perspectives, and creating a sense of shared purpose.

Action-oriented: Their focus is on getting things done, not just discussing ideas; they thrive on taking initiative and pushing progress forward.

Positive energy: They exude enthusiasm and optimism, which can be contagious and motivate others to step up.

    Potential challenges for "Galvanizing" geniuses:

Overlooking details: In their zeal to move forward, they might sometimes neglect finer points or necessary planning steps.

Impatience: They may become frustrated if others don't quickly catch on or match their level of enthusiasm.

Need for structure: While they excel at inspiring, they might benefit from clear guidelines and frameworks to ensure projects stay on track.

  • People whose genius is enablement excel at helping others bring ideas to life and achieve goals by offering necessary assistance.

Focus on support: People with this genius thrive on providing practical help, removing roadblocks, and offering encouragement to others on a project or task.

Empowering others: They aim to empower individuals by giving them the tools and confidence needed to complete their work effectively

  • People whose genius is tenacity have a natural talent for pushing things forward, essentially being the "finisher" who ensures initiatives are fully executed and meet desired standard. People with this genius are highly task-oriented and thrive on seeing things through to the end, overcoming obstacles along the way.

Task-oriented: Highly focused on deadlines and deliverables. Resistant to distractions. Driven to overcome challenges and achieve goals

Value in a team: Individuals with Tenacity are crucial for ensuring projects are completed on time and to the required quality, acting as a reliable force to drive progress and prevent things from falling through the cracks.
